2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Subscription & Billing Information: Payment method, billing address, and transaction details (processed by third-party payment processors such as Stripe).
  • Book Information: Title, author, edition notes, condition descriptions, notes on provenances, signatures, inscriptions, or bookplates.

  • Marketplace Data (when active): Listing details, prices, shipping info, and communications with buyers/sellers.
  • Communications: Emails, support requests, or messages you send us.
  • Feedback: Bug reports, feature requests, or feedback on evaluations and listings.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use the Services, we automatically collect:

  • Usage Data: Pages viewed, actions taken, features used, timestamps, referring URLs.
  • Device & Log Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers.
  • Cookies & Tracking: Cookies, pixels, and similar technologies used for authentication, analytics, and advertising.

See our Cookie Policy for more detail.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information from:

  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe) about your completed transactions;
  • Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics) about site usage;
  • Advertising partners (e.g., Meta, TikTok) regarding ad performance, where those tools are active;
  • Public sources or external services relevant to book data or market information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

3.1 Provide and Improve the Services

  • Create and maintain your Account;
  • Generate AI-based book evaluations and Passports;
  • Store your books in your Bookshelf or other collections;
  • Enable listing and purchasing of books in the marketplace;
  • Deliver merchandise purchases;
  • Improve our AI models, accuracy, and overall Service quality.

3.2 Understand and Improve Performance

  • Monitor usage and performance of the Services;
  • Diagnose issues, prevent fraud, and maintain security;
  • Conduct analytics to better understand how our Services are used.

3.3 Communicate with You

  • Send service-related messages (e.g., evaluations ready, saved items, account notices);
  • Send onboarding and feature updates;
  • Send marketing or promotional communications where permitted by law (you can opt out).

3.4 Legal & Compliance

  • Comply with legal obligations;
  • Enforce our Terms of Service;
  • Protect our rights, users, and third parties.

4. AI Models, Photos, and Evaluation Data

4.1 Use of Photos and Book Data for Evaluations

When you upload photos or information about a book, we use that data to:

  • Generate an AI evaluation, including condition, value range, and metadata;
  • Create or update a Passport for that book;
  • Provide listing data for marketplace entries (where applicable).

Photos may include images of book titles, text, signatures, inscriptions, or names visible in the book. These photos are retained as part of your evaluation and Passport records, but are not used to build user profiles or identify you in other contexts.

4.2 Future Model Learning & Service Improvement

AI Training & Model Improvement

We intend to use appropriate book-related information — including book identity evidence, evaluation evidence and results, condition information, market/sales evidence, and durable book or provenance history — to develop and improve BookLens and any future proprietary models. We do not intend for information unrelated to your books, such as your account credentials, payment details, or contact/residential information, to become model-training input merely because it is associated with a book record in your Collection.

As of the date of this Policy, we do not operate an active proprietary model-training pipeline; this section describes our intent for future development, which is subject to further internal review before any training corpus is activated. Where user-supplied free-text notes exist as part of a book or evaluation record, we do not currently promise that such notes are automatically de-identified.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Your content is not sold for AI training.

4.3 Evaluation Tokens & Saved-For-Later Evaluations

When you complete an evaluation through HonestBookAI, we may:

  • Generate an internal evaluation ID and token;
  • Allow you to choose whether to "save this for my future Bookshelf" or similar;
  • Tie that evaluation to your email or Account so it can later be imported into your Bookshelf.

If you choose not to save an evaluation under your Account, the underlying evaluation record may still be retained as described in Section 7 (Data Retention), and appropriate book-related information from it may be used consistent with the future model-learning intent described in Section 4.2.

4.4 Evaluation Retention and Passports

Evaluations and Passports may be retained and associated with your account to enable features like:

  • Historical Bookshelf views (seeing your collection over time);
  • Passports archive (maintaining a record of books you've evaluated);
  • Valuation history and market tracking;
  • Future marketplace listing functionality.

Even if you delete individual books from your Bookshelf, evaluation records may be retained to support these features. See Section 8 (Your Privacy Rights) for information about deletion requests.

4.5 Book History vs. Your Private Account Information

A Book Passport's provenance and evaluation history documents the physical copy itself — for example, appropriate ownership, acquisition, and evaluation history — and may remain associated with that book's record, including through a change of ownership, where it genuinely reflects the book's own documented history. This is distinct from your private account information — login credentials, payment details, unrelated contact information, and residential address — which is not part of a book's transferable historical record. Private account information is handled under Section 7 (Data Retention) and Section 8 (Your Privacy Rights), not carried forward as part of a book's history.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in;
  • Remember preferences;
  • Analyze usage;
  • Support advertising and retargeting.

We use Google Analytics, which is consent-gated, on both PageAndProvenance.com and HonestBookAI.com. We may also use third-party advertising tools such as Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel for analytics and targeted advertising; these are currently active on PageAndProvenance.com. These tools may collect information about your activity on our Services. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers. Advertisers may use their own technologies to serve ads or measure campaign performance.

Cookie preferences are set separately for each domain; a choice you make on PageAndProvenance.com does not automatically apply to HonestBookAI.com, or vice versa. For more detail, including which tools are active on which domain, see our Cookie Policy.

You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings and through our cookie consent banner and preferences panel (available via "Cookie Settings" in the footer of each domain).

6. How We Share Your Information

We may share information with:

6.1 Service Providers

Third-party vendors who help us operate the Services, such as:

  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe)
  • Hosting providers
  • Analytics providers
  • Email service providers
  • Customer support tools
  • Advertising platforms

These providers may have access to personal information strictly as needed to perform services on our behalf and are bound by contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations.

6.2 Marketplace Counterparties

If you participate in the marketplace:

  • Sellers may see buyer information necessary to fulfill orders (e.g., shipping name and address);
  • Buyers may see seller information relevant to the transaction (e.g., store name, return address).

We do not publicly disclose your private contact details without consent, but marketplace transactions inherently involve sharing some information between buyer and seller.

6.3 Legal & Safety

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations or requests;
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Page & Provenance, our users, or the public;
  • Detect, prevent, or address fraud, misuse, or security issues.

6.4 Business Transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will take steps to ensure your privacy rights continue to be respected.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information:

  • For as long as needed to provide the Services;
  • For as long as your Account is active;
  • As necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Evaluation data and photos may be retained for longer periods to support the Services and the future model-learning intent described in Section 4.2; where we use such information for that future purpose, we will endeavor to minimize unnecessary personal identifiers where possible.

If you close your Account, we may retain some information for compliance, record-keeping, and safety, but will limit use in accordance with this Policy.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights such as:

  • Access – Request a copy of personal data we hold about you;
  • Correction – Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Deletion – Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal exceptions). Account deletion requests are currently handled by our support team rather than as an automatic, immediate action, and we do not currently guarantee automatic deletion of associated photos or storage files as part of that process. We may retain some information as described in Section 7 (Data Retention) for legal, billing, fraud-prevention, or book-record-integrity purposes, and information genuinely documenting a book's own history (see Section 4.5) may remain associated with that book's Passport rather than being deleted along with your account;
  • Restriction – Request restriction of certain processing;
  • Portability – Request a copy of your data in a portable format;
  • Objection – Object to certain types of processing, including direct marketing.

You can exercise these rights by contacting us at support@pageandprovenance.com. We may ask for verification of your identity before acting on any request.

9. International Users

Our Services are operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers are located.

By using the Services, you consent to such transfers, subject to applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@pageandprovenance.com.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

12. Third-Party Links

The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not control. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you (e.g., via email, banner, or in-app notice).

Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect indicates acceptance of the updated Policy.
